Imagine that on the national news, a huge story about your industry category is featured. That is good, right? Although you’re not mentioned and your major competitors are, the mere fact that the news story was featured on national television could mean more business for you, right?

Well, the answer sin’t always YES. If your company’s website isn’t optimized through Los Angeles SEO (Search Engine Optimization), your customers can’t find you. This is particularly true if your company isn’t listed on the first page of Google (and other engines) search results. And current search engine optimization has trended towards location as being a new key strategy. That means if someone is searching for an online marketing company in LA, such as MarCom new Media, then we need to optimize locally – and one of our key phrases is Los Angeles SEO or search engine optimization.

But if your website is optimized, then it is another story: the news article can be posted and linked to articles that you write and post on the internet, of course, these links should be “linked” to relevant pages on your website. Let us have an example, a new company on technology. When word gets out, then there will be a breaking news story about this kind of technology as well as some input on how investors will be looking at this industry category (your market) for investments in the new year. Then, people who saw that news story may go online and type in what they remembered … using the key words that describe your technology. Results would then show, writing down the names of your competitors but not yours, if your website is not optimized appropriately with Los Angeles SEO.

Another useful strategy is to syndicate articles or videos about your company and its products on the web – don’t forget of course to link back to your website. Just keep your eyes open for duplicate content, though. Google does not like duplicate content and your rankings will be negatively affected if you do it. So another suggestion is to change each article by approximately 35-40 percent.. Edit the first and last words in every paragraph as well. Then use about three links every article, linking these keywords and or key phrases to relevant content on your website. One in the first paragraph, one somewhere in between, and the last one as near to the end of the article as possible. If you and your company are still new to blogging, you could always try to write an “advisory blog.” One simple rule is the number “three.” You can write three shorter three paragraph blog posts with three links, one on every paragraph, weekly.

Another useful strategy is the use of social media marketing (SMM) on social networking sites such as Twitter and facebook; links must also return to relevant content on your site. Twitter only accepts 140 characters, so for you to shorten your URL address links, you may use something called http://tinyurl.com. You can also use the bookmarking sites like DIGG, Delicious or StumbleUpon to link back to your site. One strategy is to create accounts on the various social media sites, and use the same name and password. Or to be sure, just place the site links, and passwords in an excel file so you do not have to remember them each time you go online to post.

Today, the latest in online marketing and public relations includes combining several online strategies, with some of the traditional offline tactics – like direct mail for example. One of the greatest things about marketing nowadays is that the Internet allows for measurement, whereas the old days of marketing and advertising was more difficult to determine the results of a campaign.

In closing, bear in mind that listings do not magically appear on the Internet. Even the experts, such as MarCom New Media, spend a considerable amount of time putting their clients on the first page of search engine results.
